What to know about lotas

Choose a lota by its use, then by weight for size. For pooja, size and finish come first: plain, hammered or nakshi (engraved). For drinking water, a level base and a well-fitting lid matter more. Some lotas are sold by weight, such as the Japani lota from 300 g to 2 kg; others by size number. Keep anything sour out of bare brass and copper.
