How our utensils are made
Three ways, chosen by the vessel: our own facility, specialist manufacturing partners and traditional artisans.
We have worked in brass, copper and kansa since 1963. In that time one thing has held: the vessel decides how it should be made.
A commercial tope that will boil rice every day needs heavy metal and a strong base. A serving handi needs an even, hammered finish. A kansa thali needs the right alloy and patient finishing.
Three ways of making
01
Our own facility
We make vessels in our own facility, in sizes from the household kitchen to the commercial one.
02
Specialist partners
Some categories are made with manufacturers who specialise in that kind of work.
03
Traditional artisans
Hammered, hand-shaped and hand-finished pieces are made by artisans we commission again and again.
§ 01Manufacturing
Vessels for commercial kitchens
Brass and copper cookware for professional kitchens is the heart of our manufacturing. Topes and degs are the deep pots; langdis and lagans are the wide, low ones. With kadhais and handis, all are made in graded sizes for hotels, restaurants, caterers and canteens.
Brass and copper vessels for cooking need kalai, a lining of pure tin, so food does not touch the metal. If you need vessels tinned, say so in your enquiry and we will confirm what we can supply.
Kalai wears with use and is renewed by a tinsmith. Our guide explains how to tell when it is due.

§ 02Manufacturing
The metal
We make or commission every piece we sell, so we know what it is made of. If the composition or weight of a piece matters for your order, tell us in your enquiry and we will confirm it before you order.
Plain vessels are often bought and sold by weight. Ask for the weight of each size before you order, and check a sample when the goods arrive.
§ 03Manufacturing
Hand work
Shaping, hammering and finishing by hand are skills learned over years. We work with artisans who have them, on selected products and finishes: hammered surfaces, hand-shaped forms, hand-finished kansa.
Hand-made pieces vary slightly in finish and weight. That variation is part of the work.
§ 04Manufacturing
Made to your specification
Many products can be made in other dimensions, capacities or designs, where the product and the method allow.
Tell us the metal, the finish and the quantity. Custom work is confirmed in writing before production starts.
