Brass masala boxes

A masala dabba is a lidded box holding small bowls of everyday spices, usually with a small spoon. It sits beside the stove, so every spice is in reach at once. We make them round, square, triangular and rectangular, plain, checked or coloured.

What to know about masala boxes

Choose a masala box by its size and the number of inner bowls. Count the spices you use every day. A close-fitting lid keeps out steam and damp. Salt and sour spices such as amchur can mark bare brass; keep them in a separate lined jar. On coloured boxes, the colour belongs on the outside only; confirm it when you order.
