A masala dabba is a lidded box holding small bowls of everyday spices, usually with a small spoon. This brass one carries colour decoration on the outside.
Keep it beside the stove with haldi, mirchi, jeera, rai and dhania, so every spice is in reach at once. A coloured box is also bought as a house-warming or return gift.
Salt and sour spices such as amchur can mark bare brass; keep them in a lined jar. Wash the bowls by hand and dry them before refilling.
Also called masala dabba, spice box, anjarai petti.
