A sipri is commonly described as a round-bellied cooking pot used every day in Sindhi and Punjabi homes. HV129, the brass Lucknowee sipri, widens towards the base and has a flared rim. It is hammered and polished bright outside, and tinned with kalai inside. Sizes are 1-4 (HV129) and 5-6 (HV130).
It cooks dal and curries, then goes to the table as a serving pot, at home, in a restaurant or as a gift.
Never heat it empty: tin melts at about 232 °C. Polish the outside with tamarind or lemon.
Also called brass handi, Punjabi handi, pital ki handi.
