A batoi is a round brass pot with a wide mouth, of the kind called batloi, used to cook dal and rice. HV38 is the light-weight version of our batoi HV37: the same use, made lighter.
The batloi was traditionally given by the bride's family to the groom's family at a wedding. A lighter batoi is easy to lift and carry, and suits gifting and pooja as well as the kitchen.
Before cooking dal or anything sour or salty in it, have the inside tinned with kalai (tin lining). Polish the outside with tamarind or lemon.
Also called batloi, batlohi.
