A kodam (kudam) is the South Indian water pot. HV42 has the same form as our plain kodam, engraved all over. Leaf scallops circle the neck and arches run round the shoulder. Roundels on the body show seated goddess figures, named in English letters such as Aishwarya and Santhana.
These are forms of Lakshmi, and kodams engraved this way are commonly sold as Ashtalakshmi kudams. They are used at weddings, Varalakshmi Vratham and housewarming poojas, and given as gifts.
Clean the engraving with tamarind or lemon and a soft brush, then dry well.
Also called nakshi kudam, Ashtalakshmi kudam, engraved kodam.
