An urli, or uruli, is a wide, shallow, round vessel from Kerala, once used for everyday cooking. HV153 is our standard brass urli, plain and polished.
Today it is mostly filled with water, flower petals and floating diyas, at entrances, in hotel lobbies and at weddings. At home it sits by the front door or in the pooja room, and at Diwali and Vishu it is filled with flowers.
Standing water marks brass, so empty, dry and polish it between uses. An urli used for cooking needs kalai inside.
Also called uruli, pital urli, flower bowl.
