About this product

A modak steamer cooks ukadiche modak, the steamed rice-flour dumplings filled with coconut and jaggery. In a steamer of this kind, water boils in the base and the modaks sit on a perforated plate above it, under a lid. This one is copper.

Maharashtrian homes make modaks for Ganesh Chaturthi, when worship often ends with an offering of 21 or 101 of them. The same steamer serves through the year for idli, dhokla and patra, and makes a festival gift.
