# Pawalis

Source: https://hvmumbai.com/utensils/pawali/

A pawali is a cylindrical metal drum, usually with a lid, used mainly to store water. Homes keep one for drinking or washing water, and temples and pooja rooms for water for rites. Ours are in brass and copper, plain, hammered or with nakshi engraving.

Also called: pawli, water drum, pital ki pawali, tambe ki pawali, पावली.

## How to choose

Choose a pawali by capacity and by what the water is for. Copper is the traditional metal for drinking water; brass suits washing water, the pooja room and display. A close-fitting lid keeps out dust. Use it for plain water only, keep anything sour out, and empty, rinse and dry it now and then. Nakshi (engraved) pawalis suit weddings, housewarmings and display.
